Community Hospital Welcomes Second Experienced Orthopedic Surgeon

McCook, Neb. – Community Hospital is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Douglas Tice, a renowned and highly skilled orthopedic surgeon, to its esteemed medical staff. This exciting development highlights our mission of leading our region to a healthier future.

Dr. Tice brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Community Hospital, having spent two years at Shepherd Air Force Base as the Chief Orthopedic Surgeon, then at Charleston Area Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center, serving as the Vice-Chairman of Orthopedic Trauma. During his time there, he played a key role in starting the orthopedic residency program. Subsequently, he transitioned to Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in Huntington, WV. Most recently, Dr. Tice has been serving as the Director of Orthopedic Hospitalist Program at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, CT, managing complex fractures and general orthopedic surgery. Being trained as an orthopedic surgeon, he has really been able to focus on trauma and reconstruction of complex fractures, but also has the unique ability to work on upper extremities, including hands and shoulders, which makes him a nice fit for Community Hospital. Dr. Tice is known for his patient-centered approach, ensuring that each individual receives personalized care tailored to their unique needs. And they just need good orthopedics. It's been fun kind of falling back in love with orthopedics at this point and I am excited to share that with the community.” 

“Our plan is to have Dr. Tice providing outreach to other communities in southwest Nebraska and northwest Kansas,” says Troy Bruntz, President and CEO at Community Hospital, “he will complement what our current providers already do. In addition to general orthopedics, he will be able to support our trauma needs, and other orthopedic specialties like carpal tunnel and shoulder repairs. Having two full time orthopedic surgeons was a dream for us over the years and we now have that.”

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr.Tice is committed to making a positive impact on the community through outreach and education initiatives. “It’s nice to come be a part of a program that is already in great shape; to expand the services that Dr. (Richard) Lawton offers and be able to branch into some of the other small critical access communities,” says Dr. Tice, adding “it's a great hospital system with excellent and well-established leadership that supports
providers.” 

With extensive general and trauma surgeon experience, Dr. Tice is board certified as an ABOS Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, is a member of the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is also a fellow for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons, and lastly, a diplomat for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and National Board of Physicians and Surgeons.
