MCC men lose at home to Laramie County 87-56

The McCook Community College men dropped an 87-56 decision Saturday at home to Laramie County Community College.

“Flat out, we just weren’t very good,” said MCC Coach Jacob Brandl. “We were not good in any facet. We got dominated on the glass, we turned the ball over, we gave them easy buckets and we couldn’t make a shot offensively.”

The Golden Eagles scored 11 of the first 13 points, led 19-5 at the midway point of the first half and rolled to a 41-23 first-half lead. LCCC outscored MCC 46-33 in the second half.

“We weren’t good and we weren’t tough,” said Brandl. “We got punched in the mouth and we didn’t respond.”

Laramie County shot 63.3 percent in the second half from the field and 49.3 percent for the game. They made five of 18 shots from the arc (27.8 percent) and went 16 of 20 from the line (80 percent). The Golden Eagles outrebounded MCC 43-33 and turned the ball over 15 times.

MCC shot 33.9 percent from the field made four of 18 3-pointers (22.2 percent) and sank 12 of 18 free throws (66.7 percent) while turning the ball over 18 times.

Freshman Louie Tucker (Bristol, England) was the only Indian to score in double figures with 11 points. Sophomore Trey Summers (Greeley, Colo.) scored nine and sophomore transfer Ty Foster (Bronx, N.Y.) had eight points and led the team with eight rebounds.

LCCC improves to 2-0 on the season, MCC goes to 1-2 with another home date Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. taking on No. 14 Indian Hills Community College.

“We’ve got a top 20 team coming to our place Tuesday and we’ve got to have a short memory and we’ve got to look at ourselves in the mirror and we’ve got to get better,” said Brandl.
